Lichen as Multipartner Symbiotic Relationships
نویسندگان
چکیده
Lichens have long been considered as composite organisms composed of algae and/or cyanobacteria hosted by a fungus in mutualistic relationship. Other gradually discovered within the lichen thalli, such multiple algal species, yeasts, or even viruses. Of pivotal relevance is existence microbiome, which community microorganisms that can be found living together on surface. This performs growing number functions. In this entry, we explore journey lichens being from dual partnership to multi-species symbiotic

Antioxidants and photoprotection in a lichen as compared with its isolated symbiotic partners.
Extreme desiccation and irradiation increase the formation of reactive oxygen species in organisms. Lichens are highly resistant to potential damage, but it is not known whether biochemical interaction between their fungal and algal partners is involved in conferring stress tolerance. Here, we show that antioxidant and photoprotective mechanisms in the lichen Cladonia vulcani are more effective...
متن کاملSymbiotic Relationships in Internet Routing Overlays
We propose to construct routing overlay networks using the following principle: that overlay edges should be based on mutual advantage between pairs of hosts. Upon this principle, we design, implement, and evaluate PeerWise, a latency-reducing overlay network. To show the feasibility of PeerWise, we must show first that mutual advantage exists in the Internet: perhaps contrary to expectation, t...
متن کاملTranscriptome analyses to investigate symbiotic relationships between marine protists
Rhizaria are an important component of oceanic plankton communities worldwide. A number of species harbor eukaryotic microalgal symbionts, which are horizontally acquired in the environment at each generation. Although these photosymbioses are determinant for Rhizaria ability to thrive in oceanic ecosystems, the mechanisms for symbiotic interactions are unclear. Using high-throughput sequencing...
متن کاملTurf wars in radiology: Need for symbiotic relationships
Over the past few decades, radiology as a specialty has seen tremendous growth, which has been accompanied by encroachment on imaging modalities by nonradiologists. Various specialists have been competing with radiologists for imaging and interventional procedures related to their specialties, and in few cases have completely taken over the imaging and interventions. These turf wars have led to...
متن کاملEvolution of the tRNALeu (UAA) Intron and Congruence of Genetic Markers in Lichen-Symbiotic Nostoc
The group I intron interrupting the tRNALeu UAA gene (trnL) is present in most cyanobacterial genomes as well as in the plastids of many eukaryotic algae and all green plants. In lichen symbiotic Nostoc, the P6b stem-loop of trnL intron always involves one of two different repeat motifs, either Class I or Class II, both with unresolved evolutionary histories. Here we attempt to resolve the comp...
